History

Humboldt Park Montessori began as a group of families looking for a new approach to education in our neighborhood. In our early years we ran parent-child classes in our homes and donated spaces. We formed a non-profit and learned the process of becoming an official 501(c)(3) organization. After several years of work, our preschool began in the fall of 2015 with 8 children. The following year we grew to 18 children, and in the 2017-2018 school year, Humboldt Park Montessori will serve 20 children in our Preschool and 12 students in our new Elementary class.

Humboldt Park Montessori is a recognized private school with the Illinois Board of Education and a member school with the American Montessori Society. Both of these organizations provide oversight for our school, and we are following a process to eventually become an accredited school with the American Montessori Society.

Our mission at Humboldt Park Montessori is to join in our children's joyful wonder of the world around us and guide them to the greatest potential residing inside them. We believe in meeting the needs of the whole child and whole family, creating a community that feels like home. Our classrooms are places of experiential learning, mindfulness, honor for cultural diversity, and passion for asking questions and exploring the answers.

Our teachers lead students in peaceful practices like meditation to encourage slowing down and breathing in the world. This student took it upon himself to take the practice outdoors.
